Valedictory Speaker Application Form

Lincoln University invites you to speak at this year’s ceremony. During your three minutes speech, you are expected to share inspiration, encouragement, and convey a message for the future. The selected student graduate speakers are required to participate in pre-commencement activities. If you are applying for graduation this semester and you want to share your experience at Lincoln University, you are invited to submit your application.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be graduating in the summer, fall, or spring of the application year.
  • At the time of application, graduate students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, while undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • The applicant should have strong involvement in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, work experience, or any other relevant experience.
  • The applicant should demonstrate their abilities that make them a suitable candidate to represent their program and the university.

    Please answer the following questions by attaching your statement (up to 500 words).

    1. Why would you like to be the student speaker at this year’s commencement ceremony?

    2. What experiences at LU make you a good representative of the entire graduating class?

    3. What qualities do you possess that make you a strong candidate to be the student speaker?

    Once you submit a Valedictory Speaker Application Form, the Dean of Students will share it with the Academic Program Directors and the Dean of Business Studies. Then, selected students will be notified by email.    

    The following dates are tentative dates and are subject to change.

    Friday, April 5, 2024, at 5pm Application Form due
    Friday, April 12, 2024, at 5pm Selected students will be notified
    Friday, April 26, 2024 Selected students will write a first draft of their speech
