Who is Eligible to Become a Peer Tutor?

Peer tutors are Lincoln University students who are passionate about teaching and learning and are knowledgeable in their fields. They have completed the course(s) for which they are tutoring with high marks and/or recommendations from their instructor. Peer tutors provide support in one-on-one meetings both virtually and in person.

Requirements

  • Firm understanding of the subject/course you wish to tutor.
  • Receive a “B” grade or better in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and time management skills.
  • Be able to serve as a role model for students seeking assistance.
  • Be interviewed and hired by the Dean of Students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic support during assigned hours.
  • Be punctual, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the students’ needs.
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing any lecture notes, handouts, and/or textbook.
  • Exercise professional discretion at all times. We encourage conversation with other staff to enhance tutoring skills, but you should always conduct such conversations with tact and care. Information about students should not leave the confines of the Academic Success Center.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all tutoring sessions.
